Audi has recently presented a new concept of the AMOLED video rear view system on the Audi R8 e-tron. The digital rear-view mirror boasts a new display, which is thinner, lighter and even more energy-saving, compared to a conventional LCD monitor. The system features a lightweight camera in an aerodynamically optimized casing, its lens diameter is only some millimetres, but it is able to cover a larger field of view than other usual rear-view mirrors. The 7.7-inch AMOLED display developed by Samsung is made up of self-illuminating organic materials that do not need illumination from behind. The intelligent control system keeps from headlights dazzle of other vehicles, which is very handy in the nighttime: the driver can dim or deactivate the display at any time. The producer has announced that the commercial production of AMOLED video rear view system will be launched at the end of this year.
