iRobot, futuristic robots
That’s pretty much the range of the iRobot company, producing both Roomba robotic vacuum cleansers and Packbot military-grade robots for taking action in hostile, front lines of combat and hostage situations. Packbot was involved with detecting and disarming roadside bombs, performing reconnaissance in areas with high radiation and testing structural integrity. The robot has proven to be so good, that US military has channeled $7.7 million to order upgrade to about 250 high-tech robots, including such new features as thermal cameras, or a self-righting mechanism capable of assisting a robot to correct itself after flipping over.
