Efficient Bladeless Wind Turbine From Saphon Energy (+VIDEO)
Inspired by the design of shipâs sails, Tunisian green energy startup Saphon Energy has designed a new bladeless wind turbine project, called âSaphonianâ. The company claims, this turbine will double efficiency in converting the kinetic energy of the wind into electricity in comparison to a usual wind turbine and besides fewer costs will be needed for its operation. At present thereâs a burning need for wind turbines generating renewable energy and avoiding the use of rotating blades, which cause noise pollution and are harmful to birds. To utilize the windâs energy the Saphonian turbine utilizes a Zero-Blade Technology. The company reports that discarding the blades, hub and gearbox needed in a traditional wind turbine will lead to savings in manufacturing. Having got an international patent in March, Saphon Energy aims at putting this technology to market and is looking for collaboration with a manufacturer.
