Dr. Guero’s Robot Balances On A Pair Of Nail-Like Stilts (+VIDEO)
Dr. Guero (Masahiko Yamaguchi), the expert roboticist, also known for designing low-priced hobby kits, has recently made a robot balance on a pair of nail-like stilts. The Kondo KHR-3HV robot kit had already been programmed to ride a miniature bicycle, and balance on a tightrope with weights. Now the modified version of the robot (priced at around US$1,829) is fitted out with a simple gyro sensor and accelerometer that relay data to a controller that then makes slight adjustments to the position of its arms and legs to maintain its equilibrium. The balance control algorithm works only when standing still on an unmoving base and can handle slopes up to 45 degrees. You can watch the video below to see the robot placed up in a tree, on uneven ground, and various other stable surfaces.
