After watching the gripping Avatar movie in 2009, we’ve understood, that virtual robotics could change everything, making it possible to slip into a robotic avatar that allows you to be at any location. Researchers from the Keio University in Japan are now working on one of the first embodiments of an avatar, featuring unique virtual robotics technology, chiefly meant to help humans enter hazardous areas like the Fukushima reactors. The concept is known asTelexistence, and it allows us to control the upper part of a real avatar robot body. You’ll be able to control and see the world through your avatar’s eyes with the help of a pair of virtual reality gloves and a helmet. The robot can measure temperatures with its sensors; moreover it can simulate touch which is recognized down to the surface of a LEGO block.
