The Microsoft Patent Application Puts You In The Game

Microsoft patent application number 20120223885 overviews a system for bringing console gaming out from beyond the television screen into the real world. The television set would show the game’s main visuals, but a “peripheral image” would be displayed onto all four walls of the room being used, thus the game’s environment would surround the player, the visuals would appear in front, behind, and to the sides of the player due to a depth-sensing Kinect camera system, tracking the player’s position. Microsoft has already achieved success with Kinect, and Kinect 2 – likely to be a major force behind the company’s next home console – could improve upon the concept even more.
