First Robot Boats To Cross Pacific
A robot called Benjamin is one of the four wave gliders developed by Liquid Robotics to break the record of travelling 3000 nautical miles across the Pacific Ocean as an unmanned craft. The gliders are totally powered by wave motion, while the solar cells on the decks charge their communication equipment. Sensors measure various oceanographic data and wing shaped panels make the glider, connected to the submerged glider, move across the water. We’ve told you about those before, the news is following. The next goal is to conquer 5,000 more nautical miles to reach Australia and Japan. The wave gliders are to cut the cost of oceanic observation and research.
