Nano-Coated Fabric Repels Water And Dirt

nano waterproof coating for clothes
Researchers (Tong Lin, Yan Zhao, Xungai Wang and Zhiguang Xu) at Australian Future Fibres Research and Innovation Centre at the Deakin University have created self-cleaning layering for fabric. This hydrophobic technology takes after lotus flower, and quickly repels dirt, water and other substances under the UV light. The layer-by-layer (LbL) deposition technique spreads silica nanoparticles to the fabric, exchanging negatively and positively charged layers of a substance for self-cleaning once exposed to UV light. The technique can be applied to regular clothes for antibacterial coatings and to irregular materials with tough surfaces.
